Was daughter Mary adopted? Or is some of this information in error?
About 1898 (1900, 1910 censuses) William married as his second wife ALICE KING, who was born at Nebraska on 11 June 1869 (Ca D). The 1900 census (939:1:271A) reported this family at Fairview Precinct, Sarpy County:

| Maxfield, Carrie | step-daughter | W | Mar 1894 | S | NE | NY | NE | ||
| Boyle, Thomas | servant | W | Sep 1873 | S | England | farm laborer |
This was the second marriage for both William and Alice; Alice had one child, who was living. Was Carrie given the surname Maxfield upon being adopted by William, was it informally given, or is this a mistake?
The 1910 census (854:3:42A) reported this family at Fairview Precinct:

Is Stella the same person as Carrie in the previous census?
