The 1870 census (828:1:231B) reported Lucas G. Maxfield at West Point Post Office, Cuming County, Nebraska. He was a 36 year old farmer born in Ohio. His real estate was valued at $700, and his personal estate at $350. He was living alone.

Lucus G. Maxfield married MARIETTA (______) HUNTER at Cumming County on 6 November 1878 (Ne M). She was previously married to a man surnamed WILLIAM HUNTER. She was born in New York about 1831/2 (1880 census; IGI gives the date as 4 August 1839).
William Hunter was born at Pennsylvania, married Marietta at Warsaw Township, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, about 1849. They had six children. He died in a blizzard at Nebraska on 25 November 1871 (Allen).
It is possible that some of these variant records are for other persons. Some sources refer to him as "Lucus Albert," others as "Luther." But he is Lucus G. or Lucas G. in the 1850, 1870 and 1880 censuses, and the age and state data of these census records point to the same person.
