ALLEN DERICK6 MAXFIELD (Richard5, probably Benjamin4, Joseph3-2 John1) was born at Onondaga County, New York, on 9 November 1832 (Ferguson), a child of Richard Maxfield and his wife Elizabeth Coon.

Allen Derick Maxfield married CATHERINE THOMPSON probably about 1854/5. Catherine was born at New York on August 1836 (1900 census).

The 1860 census (555:) reported this family at Montcalm Township, Post Office, and County, Michigan:

Allen served in the Union Army in the Civil War, from 1862 to 1865, although he was wounded in 1864 (Civ War):

The 1890 Veteran's Schedule (1890 Vets) reported:

MI, Oceana Co., Pentwater village:
Maxfield, Allen D., Private, Co. F, 14th Mich Inf, 5 Feb 1862-5 Feb 1864; 5 Feb 1864-23 May 1865; arm shot to pieces
The 1900 census (1742:1:103) reported a household on Sixth Street, Port Angeles, Washington, that could be this family. The name of the head of household is difficult to read; it looks like "Otto D." or "Abel D." Maxfield. He was a harness maker, born in November 1831, in New York, as were his parents. The wife's name appears to be Phebe A. Maxfield, born August 1836 in New York, as were her parents. This couple had been married 45 years, which appears likely for Allen and Catherine. "Phebe" had three children, of whom one was living. Living with them was a son, William R. Maxfield, a widower and a shingle sawyer, born at Michigan on July 1959. In spite of the lack of clarity of the names, this appears to be a record for this family.

According to the 1910 census (1624:5B) Catherine, widow, was living with her son William. In 1920 (1921:4A), at age 83, she still resided with her son in Washington state.

Allen D. and Catherine Maxfield had the following children:

  1. ELVIRA7 MAXFIELD
    • b. at Michigan about 1855/6 (1860 census)
  2. WILLIAM R.7 MAXFIELD b. in Michigan on July 1858
