EDWIN L.6 MAXFIELD (Obadiah5, David4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at New York or Vermont about 1814 (census records), a child of Obadiah Maxfield and his wife Eunice.

Edwin Maxfield married MELISSA ________ some time before 1840. The census record of that year (276:252) reported the Edwin Maxfield family at Chazy, Clinton County, New York, consisting of a male and a female in their 20s and a male under five. Melissa Maxfield died at Clinton County on 6 August 1840, age 25 years (Sciota Cem). I do not know what happened to the male under five.

Edwin L. Maxfield married CYNTHIA ANN CALKINS within two years of the death of his first wife. Cynthia Ann was born at New York on 13 September 1816, a child of Asa Calkins (MI D).

From 1850 through 1880 each federal census reported this family at Tallmadge Township, Ottawa County, Michigan. The 1860 census (557:321) reported the family at Lamont Post Office as follows:

Ira L. Maxfield died at the home of his sister, Mrs. L. Ackerman, in Muskegon, March 29, 1907.
He was born in Lamont in 1853. His home had always been in that little village until last fall, when he secured employment in Muskegon. He suffered a severe attack of la grippe, but was not considered serious until a short time before his death. His remains were brought to his other sister’s home in Coopersville, and from there taken to Lamont for the funeral, and buried by the side of his father and mother in Maplewood Cemetery. He leaves two sisters, S. Hunter, of Coopersville, and Mrs. L. A. Ackerman, of Muskegon.
