ISAAC5 MAXFIELD (David4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel3, John1) was born probably at New Hampshire say about 1772, s son of David Maxfield and his wife Judith Clough. He was still living in March of 1826, and probably had died by 1850. He married sometime between 1791 and 1794, say about 1792 PHEBE HILL.[1] She was born at Vermont about 1772, and died in 1861.
Isaac Maxfield was born between 1756 and 1774 according to the 1800 census; the censuses for 1791 and 1820 both place his birth before 1775. Considering when he began his family, and the order of children as given by Frederick Gilmore Maxfield,[2] 1772 would appear to be a good guess for his birth year. His family of origin was in New Hampshire in 1770, perhaps in Vermont by 1778, and had definitely left New Hampshire by 1784. By 1791 the family of David and Judith Maxfield resided at Colchester, Chittenden County, Vermont.
Isaac Maxfield farmed with his brother Jacob at Georgia, Franklin County, Vermont, then on his own at Georgia, then moved to Chazy, Clinton County, New York, where he farmed. At this point we loose track of him. However several of his children reappeared later at Wisconsin and Minnesota, which is probably where his widow Phebe died.
Isaac Maxfield left a record of his activities on the land records of the Town of Georgia:
After the sale of this land, Isaac Maxfield may have traveled west, to New York State, to establish a homestead there, as the Isaac Maxfield household was reported at Georgia in the 1810 census, but he was not present.
The Isaac Maxfield household was reported at Georgia in 1791, 1800 and 1810, and at Chazy, Clinton County, New York in 1820.[9] A possible explanation of the composition of the family follows:

Concerning the children of Isaac and Phebe Maxfield:
Isaac Maxfield purchased land in Chazy on 27 December 1825. Benjamin Mooers of Plattsburgh and Mary his wife sold to Isaac Maxfield of Chazy for $350, parts of lot # 30 of Chazy, 226 acres altogether.[15] The county Court of Common Pleas called Isaac Maxfield an "insolvent laborer" on 10 March 1826, and gave notice to all creditors to make their claims known.[16] That notice, published in the Plattsburgh Republican on 18 March 1826, is the last reference I have found to Isaac Maxfield.
By 1826, the first Milo and Lozena had probably died, and Wealthy and Maria had married. I have no further information on the daughter Phebe. The others soon married, and, with the exception of Jacob who died in Vermont, they all moved West. Wealthy and her second husband, Michael Emlaw, moved to Michigan. Maria and Julia went to Minnesota. David and Milo made their homes in Wisconsin.
Widow Phebe Maxfield in 1850 was living with her son Milo in Wisconsin. In 1860 she lived with daughter Maria in Minnesota. Phebe died in 1861.[17]
Isaac Maxfield and his wife Phebe Hill had the following children:
In the name of God, Amen. I Jacob Maxfield of Fairfax in the County of Franklin and the state of Vermont being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following, to wit:
First I will that all my debts of every description be paid and lastly I do give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Lucy Maxfield all my real and personal estate of every name or nature whatever after said debts are paid and I do hereby appoint her my sole executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made. . . .
