Henry Schaubach and Andrew Shaubach
and their Descendants
First Generation

The main source of information for this web page is a genealogy prepared by the Shaubach family, which used to hold annual reunions at Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on Father's Day. This document of 13 legal size pages, mimeographed, produced about 1950, was distributed to family members. It traces all descendants, not just those with the surname. Any family members or possible family members requesting a look up of information from this document, may contact me, Charles Maxfield, at chuckmaxfield@gmail.com

According to the Schaubach/Shaubach Genealogy, Henry and Andrew Schaubach had a brother, perhaps named Martin, who remained in Germany. After his death, his widow and six children came to Brooklyn, New York, perhaps about 1860.

I have no proof of who these people were. However the 1880 census (CR 1880: 841:348C) reported the following family, which could be the family in question:

Name Related MS Sex Race Age B Occupation FB MB
Mary E. Shaubach self W F W 60 Germany keeping house Germany Germany
John H. Shaubach son S M W 30 Germany butcher Germany Germany
Barbara Shaubach daughter S F W 26 Germany Germany Germany
Phillip Shaubach son S M W 28 Germany truck driver Germany Germany
Maggie Shaubach daughter S F W 21 Germany Germany Germany

But this record listed only four children, and tradition said there were six; what about the other two? Records suggest two persons who could be the other two children. The Brooklyn, New York, Directories for 1889 and 1890 mentioned a Martin Schaubach, butcher, living at 69 Reid Avenue. The New York City Directory for 1890 listed a William F. Schaubach, finisher, living at 173 Norfolk.

The 1910 census (CR 1910: 893:2:127B) reported the following family at 159 Garden Avenue, North Bergen, Hudson County, New Jersey:

The record further reported that William and Louise had been married 24 years; she had three children, all living; they both came to America in 1870.

The 1920 census (CR 1920: 1153:1A) reported the following family at 69 Reid Court, Brooklyn:

The record further stated that Martin had come to America in 1867, Magdalena in 1859.

To summarize:

Henry and Andrew Schaubach had a brother, perhaps MARTIN SHAUBACH, who lived in Germany, and died probably by 1860. He was married, perhaps to MARY E.1, born in Germany about 1819/20. Martin and Mary may have had the following children:
