SAMUEL R.8 MAXFIELD (Samuel7, Joseph6, Nathaniel5, Eliphalet4, Nathaniel3, John2-1) was born at Springfield, New Hampshire, on 26 May 1850 (F), a child of Samuel Hill Maxfield and his wife Sarah Ann George Heath.

Samuel Maxfield married MERINDA J. AUSTIN at Springfield on 24 April 1867 (VR NH M), recorded as follows:

Merinda was born at Alexandria, New Hampshire (marriage record), to John and Hanna Austin, in July 1845 (1900 Census; 1845 on 1920 Census; 1845/6 on 1880 Census; 1846/7 on marriage record).

Samuel Maxfield was called a farmer in Springfield in various marriage and birth records from 1867 to 1891, and on 1880, 1900 and 1920 census records. One birth record, in 1880, called him a laborer in Enfield. In later years they lived in Wilmot, New Hampshire (F).

The 1900 Census again reported this family at Springfield. Samuel was called "Junior." Daughter Mary Ellen was the only child of theirs at home. Their grandchild, Samuel J. Maxfield, whose parents had died, was also living with them. The census indicated that Merinda had seven children of whom only three were living.

The 1910 census (865:1:180A) reported the three generation family at Wilmot, Merrimack County, New Hampshire:

Samuel and Merinda had been married forty years, and Merinda had seven children, only two still living.

The 1920 Census (1012:1B) reported Samuel and Merinda living on the Turnpike at Springfield, with no children or grandchildren at home.

Merinda Maxfield died at Wilmot on 19 June 1924 (F). Samuel Maxfield died at Grafton, New Hampshire, on 17 September 1928, age 71 (F).
