Maxfield, 32, was a building carpenter, Laura Maxfield, 30, was a clerk for the government. Their son Morris was back in Vermont with Harland's parents.

Harland and Laura were married at the ages of 23 and 20 respectively, and Harland was a veteran of the World War.
Laura K. Maxfield died sometime before 10 March 1953, when Washington County Probate Records first mentioned her. (Wash Co Pr 134:25). A list of creditors of Laura K. Maxfield of Barre on that date tallied her debts at $167.96. On 4 May, Harland H. Maxfield, widower of Laura K. Maxfield of Barre, was assigned property valued at $3,653.76 (Wash Co Pr 134:574).
