Alfred Maxfield married SARAH E. ALDRICH at Oakland County on 25 December 1872 (Oakland Co M). Sarah was born at Ohio on April 1853 (W Highland Cem).
The 1880 census (592:132C) reported the Alfred Maxfield family at Hartland Township, Livingston County, Michigan:
|Sarah Maxfield||wife||M||F||W||27||OH||keeping house||OH||OH|
|Edgar Maxfield||son||S||M||W||24||MI||farm laborer||NY||NY|
|Leroy Maxfield||father||S||M||W||72||NY||retired farmer||OH||OH|
This record contains some obvious errors: Edgar was Alfred's brother, not his son, and their father was Levi, not Leroy, who was a widower, not single.
The census records for 1900 (735:1:316) and 1910 (668:1:122A) report this couple at Highland Township, Oakland County, in the neighborhood of Maxfield relatives. The 1900 census reported Alford, born January 1847, was a farmer; Sarah was born April 1853; they had been married 27 years, and Sarah had a total of one child, who was living. The 1910 census reported them ages 63 and 57, married 37 years, still engaged in farming, and Sarah had two children, one of whom was living.
The 1920 census (766:17B) reported Alfred and Sarah Maxfield, and their son Frank, at Fenton village, Fenton Township, Genesee County, Michigan. Their ages were 73, 66, and 45, none were listed with an occupation, and Frank was incorrectly listed as single.
