CALVIN 4 MAXFIELD (Leonard3, Levi2, David1) was born at Ohio about 1836 (1835/6 in 1850 census; 1836/7 in 1860 census; 1837/8 in 1860 [duplicate entry], 1880 censuses), a child of Leonard and Nancy Maxfield. Judging from the birth states of Calvin's siblings, the family moved back to New York before 1841, then to Michigan sometime between 1843 and 1847.

The 1860 census (564:) reported Calvin Maxfield twice: with his parents, and in the household of Edward and Emily Simonds. Both households were at Plymouth, Wayne County, Michigan. In the latter report, both Calvin Maxfield and Edward Simonds were blacksmiths.

Calvim Maxfield served in the Union Army during the Civil War, and returned wounded (Civ War Sold):

Calvin Maxfield married JENNIE E. GRAHAM at Oakland County, Michigan, on 13 October 1872 (Oakland Co M). Jennie was born at Michigan about 1842/3 (1880 census).

The 1880 census (610:308B) reported this family at Plymouth Township as follows:
