Descendants of David Maxfield
of Georgia and Fairfax, Vermont
Third Generation

LEVI3 MAXFIELD (Levi2, David1) was born at Vermont in 1808 (W Highland Cem; 1809/10 NY in 1870 census; 1807/8 NY in 1880 census) a child of Levi Maxfield and his wife Laura Richmond.

Levi Maxfield married CAROLINE CAMPBELL probably some time before 1832. Caroline was born at Vermont about 1806/7 (W Highland Cem).

Based on the birth information for the children, this family lived at Ohio, at least from 1833 to 1838. Levi Maxfield was one of the first settlers of Hartland Township, Livingston County, Michigan, where he was reported in the 1840 census (208:181). The family consisted of a male in his 30s, a female in her 20s, a female 5-9 and a female 0-4.

Caroline Maxfield died in May 1860, age 53 (W Highland Cem).

The 1870 census (687:1:132A) reported Levi Maxfield, 60, farmer, living in the household of Priscilla Maxfield, 45, at Howells Post Office, Hartland Township. Also in the household were Joshua Benedict, 77, John McViecar, 21, and John Boman, 16. I cannot identify any of these other people. Could it be that Levi remarried, to Priscilla?

The 1880 census (592:132C) found Levi, called "Leroy," age 72, born New York, at Hartland Township in a household headed by his son Alfred and including his son Edgar.

Levi Maxfield died at Hartland Township on 19 July 1888 (W Highland Cem).
