Alfred Maxfield of Westford, 32 y, 1st, shoemaker b. WestfordMary Jane Holmes was born at Westford, Vermont, about 1843/4 (place from birth records of children, year from 1870, 1880 censuses). Alfred was consistently called a shoemaker in all future records.

The 1870 census (1618:1:729A) reported this family at the town of Westford, Essex Junction Post Office. The family included Alfred, age 40, boot and shoe maker, Mary Jane, 26, keeping house, Elmer E., 8, at school, Effie L., 5, at school, and Dora L., 2. All were born at Vermont.
The 1880 census (1343:340A) reported the growing family at Westford, spelling a few names differently. It listed Alfred, 51, shoemaker, Jane, wife, 36, keeping house, Armina, daughter, 18, employed as a servant, Ethel, daughter, 15, Dora, daughter, 7, Arthur, son, 7, and Charley, son, 2. All family members and all of their parents were born at Vermont.
I have no further information on Alfred and Mary Jane, and no information on their deaths.
