Mary Gochenauer was born in Pennsylvania on 10 March 1836 (Pa Deaths 4411:1; on 6 March according to grave marker). Her parents were John Gochenauer and his wife Lydia Elliot (Pa Deaths 4411:1). In the 1860 Census, Mary, age 24, was living with her parents in Providence Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. When Mary signed daughter Ada's wedding license in 1887, she stated, "father is deceased."
Mary's great-granddaughter, Mary Leora (Martin) Duke, who was born in 1906, recalled in 1984, "I remember his [Albert Martin's] mother visited us several times and we called her Grandma Gochenauer."
