FRANCES E.3 DOMMEL (Bertha2, John1) was born at Lancaster, Pennsylvania, on 29 August 1907 (obit, SSDI), a child of Peter Dommel and his wife Bertha Bauer.

Frances married as her first husband a man surnamed SMITH, who was probably born in Missouri. The 1930 census (2057:16B) reported Frances and her three children living with her parents. Although Frances was listed as married, her husband was not listed:

Frances married as her second husband FRANCIS B. O'CONNOR. He was born on 12 August 1890 (SSDI). He held the rank of Lieutenant Colenel in the military.

Francis B. O'Connor died at Lancaster in June 1968 (SSDI). His widow Frances E. O'Connor died at Lancaster on 12 May 1888. Her full obituary is transcribed below.

Frances Dommel Smith O'Connor had at least five children, at least three of whom were by her first husband.


Obituary of Frances O.Connor

F. O'Connor, retiree, 80

Frances E. O'Connor, 80, of Lancaster House North, died Thursday at St. Joseph Hospital after an illness of five months.
She was the wife of the late Lt. Col. Francis B. O'Connor, who died in 1968.
Mrs. O'Connor lived most of her life in Lancaster but travelled with her husband during his years in military service.
She worked 15 years at the F. W. Woolworth Variety Store and then three years for the former Schlotzhauer Bakery on Manor Street before retiring.
Mrs. O'Connor was a lifelong member of Memorial Presbyterian Church and a member of its Women's Association. She was also a member of the Happy Hours Club.
Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Peter J. and Bertha Bauer Dommel.
Surviving are four children: Bertha D. Lechner, William D. Smith and Walter A., all of Lancaster; and Thomas P., Conestoga; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Charles W. Dommel and Paul W. Dommel, both of Lancaster.
