Elmer F. Bauer and HELEN ARMETA MARTIN were married at Bethany Evangelical Church, Lancaster, on 25 December 1922, by Rev. George F. Schaum. (Bethany Evangelical later became Bethany Evangelical United Brethren, and still later, Bethany United Methodist). Helen was born at Lancaster on 23 January 1904, a daughter of Henry Martin and his wife Cora Estelle Howett.
The young Bauer family was living at 532 N. Mary St., Lancaster, on 1 May 1923. But by the time their first child was born, in October 1923, they were on South Ann Street, Lancaster. In 1929 they were living at 325 East Chestnut Street, Lancaster (Dir Lanc 1930:101).
From 1931 to 1965, "Hap" Bauer worked for the electric company, as an operator, at Safe Harbor, Conestoga Township, lancaster County (Dir Lanc 1930:101). He lived in the Company Village at Safe Harbor from 1933 to 1965. After retirement in 1965, he worked for the same electric company as groundskeeper at Safe Harbor. He then lived in a trailer on Millersville Road, near Millersville, until his death.
Helen Martin was baptized with a sister at age 15 at Bethany Evangelical Church, West Orange and Concord Streets, Lancaster. The date was 16 February 1919.
Helen Martin Bauer died of pneumonia in 1932. Her grief-stricken husband wrote in their wedding book:
A Good Wife and Mother passed away in my arms at 5:30 P.M. on Monday April 4, 1932. God bless her and keep her.Helen was buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Lancaster.
Elmer married again. At Sunbury, Pennsylvania, on 18 February 1933, he married ALICE KINSEY. Alice was born at Hanover, Pennsylvania, on 29 May 1908.
Elmer F. "Hap" Martin, Jr., died at Lancaster on 15 July 1978. He was buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Lancaster. Alice (Kinsey) Bauer continued living in the trailer, and died near Millersville on 2 May 1986.
